Dali Museum St Petersburg - FL Road Trip Pt. 2

St Petersburg

After our little trip to the Devil's Den in Welliston we headed over to the Gulf Coast to check out St. Petersburg. It's hard to believe I've lived in Florida all my life and I've never visited St. Petersburg. So, as part of my goal to adventure to places I've never been, I decided to add it to the Spring break road trip.

The first thing I did once I got there was check Yelp to see if there was anything worth seeing in the area. I found out that the Salvador Dali Museum is located in Downtown St. Petersburg. I'm a big fan of museums and since I learned about Dali in school many moons ago I figured this would be a good one to check out. I knew it would be a good learning experience for the kids as well.

Dali Museum

We made it to the Dali Museum a little bit after noon. When we're on vacation noon is early. Actually noon is early on a regular day to a teenager lol. As you walk up to the museum you're hit with a breath-taking, beautiful architectural design that really compliments the artwork inside.

Once inside we opted to do the self-guided tour. With this tour you get an Ipod and headphones. There's a numbered playlist on the Ipod that matches with numbers on each painting. Once you see a painting you would like to know more about you select that number on the Ipod and listen to the narrative. I really appreciated this because it allowed us to go at our own pace.

Dali Museum Inside

Our favorite part of our visit to the museum was the Dali-Disney exhibit. This exhibit presented how similar the lives of both Salvador Dali and Walt Disney were. It also presented how the two men came to work together. My daughter absolute loved this part of the museum. There was also a virtual tour of one of Dali's paintings in this part of the museum.

After the museum we found a great little yogurt shop called Yogurtology. They had the best yogurt I have ever had. Try the Captain Crunch flavor if you ever get to go. Oh man deish!!

We ended our trip with a visit to Treasure Island Beach. I couldn't get enough of this beach. It's a sandy white beach that stretches what seems like a mile from the shore to the street. The water was not warm but not freezing. But what made the whole visit worth while was that absolutely gorgeous Gulf Coast Sunset.

I gotta say it was a short trip but it was filled with fun and new experiences and we had the most amazing time.
